How to test if your paint is Acrylic or Enamel (water or oil based) with Inspire DIY

Hey guys, sometimes during a painting
project you’re going to need to figure out whether your previously painted
surfaces were done in either an acrylic or an enamel. Now I’ve got a quick and
easy test that you can do to figure out what you’ve got I’ll show you that right
now So how this enamel or acrylic test goes
we need some methylated spirits or you can use acetone, now nail polish remover
which you might have at home is acetone. For this test we’re going to be using
methylated spirits because we’re doing this test on white paint I’m going to
use a colored rag and that way the white paint will show up. How it works is you
put a little bit of methylated spirits on a rag and rub it on the surface, methylated spirits softens an acrylic paint and you end up with some paint
color on this rag, now if we do that same test, a little bit more controlled that
time… Rub your methylated spirits onto an
enamel surface, no paint’s gonna show up on the rag. Acrylic, Enamel, hopefully me
showing you that test helps you out with your project. See you on the next video
