Planes, Trains & Automobiles (2/10) Movie CLIP – Owen (1987) HD

Uh… I got to go. I got to catch
a plane. Two hours of staring
at material to decide to reconvene
after the holidays. They’re selling cosmetics,
not curing cancer.

I may be in the minority, but I never cared for steve martin's "comedy"…without John Candy this movie would have been a real stinker.

Owen looks so scary, and not to mention the fact that he says the current temperature is ONE DEGREE Fahrenheit–geez,if I were in such a situation, that wouldn't help me live with it at all.

If I ever get to meet Dylan Baker, I'll tell him that his role as "Owen" in PTaA is the most awesome two-minute performance in a movie ever

  21. Okoboji December 13, 2017 at 3:42 pm

I went to high school with a kid who looked a lot like Owen. He also chewed tobacco as well.

  22. Randy Roberts December 22, 2017 at 11:20 pm

you the shower curtain ring fella ? …LOL. the family and I have been watching this around Thanksgiving time ever since I was young it's kind of like a tradition … and Christmas Vacation with Chevy around Christmas time. I love J.C. movies…I'm pretty sure I own every one where he had a leading or supporting role. Plus the smaller role films like Stripes or Volunteers.

I was walking down 9th Avenue in Manhattan back in 2011, and passed right by Dylan Baker, the actor who plays Owen. His bowed legs gave him away. He's an accomplished character actor who's played in a number of excellent movies.

  31. Michael White January 29, 2018 at 5:33 pm

Train don't run outta Wichita… Lessen yet a hog err a cattle….*snort snort*

  45. hoya03 June 2, 2018 at 1:06 am

Love the realism of the movie and John and Steve are the best. The rotting of the station wagon is the first sign of America being shit on by our corporations using so called steel made on the dirt floors of China. As if that weren't bad enough the greedy bastards then took your jobs and shipped them back to China to bankrupt you and make themselves even greedier and greedier. I want these people to pay and I mean pay for killing 75 million Americans so they could look at you and mock you. These people who are running this county are a bunch of sick Fascists. If they could murder you right now they would and then laugh at you and our family for being poor. They believe that God made them rich o purpose to subvert you and make you slaves.

Did Owen inspire Brad Pitt's character in "Killafornia"?

  50. kpk33x July 25, 2018 at 3:21 am

Drove by the Braidwood Inn today! Recognized it instantly though it is now painted in a color I'd describe as "you can see it from space" yellow. The high of this discovery got me through the 90 minutes of cornfields that followed.

  51. willshealy July 29, 2018 at 5:51 am

One of the funniest scenes from one of the funniest movies ever made. Whoever played Owen was brilliant. Was it his idea to throw in those weird facial ticks and grunting noises? Too funny!

It just hit me that I met both Dylan Baker and Steve Martin. Dylan was cast in a play at the NJ theater I worked for in 1996, he and his family spent I think 5 weeks with us between rehearsals and the run. Very nice, very approachable guy. I do recall one night after rehearsal a few of us were hanging out with him and someone asked him about this scene. He said he absolutely loved this small role and had a lot of fun with it, he was given free reign to improvise. He did confirm that the hand spit was an idea given to him by the director to gross out Steve Martin, who had no idea it was coming. I met Steve Martin when he visited my ship during Desert Storm as part of a USO tour. Got his autograph.

  70. daughterofolaf December 7, 2018 at 7:45 pm

This scene is freaking hilarious. I love it when John Candy screams at the dog β€œGive him the goddamn glove!” I love how genuine he is about it and how he acts as though the dog will understand him. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  71. Marco Oliva December 12, 2018 at 3:45 pm

Owen's wife is trying to keep a straight face in this scene.

  72. Nightser Arts December 28, 2018 at 8:17 pm

So is Owen's lazy wife played by Scarlett Johansson? Looks a little like her. I cannot find who actually played her.

  95. Lucetta Butt September 22, 2019 at 5:16 am

To the actress "whose baby came out sideways!!!" Lol!! I read your comment I think last year and how you told about the scene and Owen and how Steve Martin ( who is my favorite) really didn't like how he spit ( owen) on his hand and then shook Steve Martins hand after that and how Steve ran to wash it off!!! Lol!! I think that was great how you were in that movie!!! I and my family watch this movie every Thanksgiving Holiday.. It's a tradition!!! We love it so much!! Also… Just recently… My sister gave my Dad an early Christmas present… It's a "sunshade" of Dale and Neil w/ their fingernails plowed into the dashboard of the car when they sort of wrecked!!! Lol!! Great.Thanksgiving.movie.EVER!!!!!

    A Young Dylan Baker

  97. Clark Drew September 26, 2019 at 12:46 am

Dylan Baker is a good character actor. I just watched him in an episode of Monk where he played a newspaper columnist accused of murdering his mistress.
He was also in the 1994 movie Disclosure with Michael Douglas and anymore
