Planes, Trains & Automobiles (4/10) Movie CLIP – Burning Car (1987) HD

Uh… I got to go. I got to catch
a plane. Two hours of staring
at material to decide to reconvene
after the holidays. They’re selling cosmetics,
not curing cancer.

"you could have killed me slugging me in the stomach like that", well gee Dell, maybe that was the intent.

  3. truthaintpretty April 18, 2012 at 12:55 am

What about the part JUST before this, where they get out and Candy starts laughing: "Hahaha, wow, hahaha, that was close. We can laugh about it now, we're alright" And Martin's just staring at him. Candy's delivery was priceless! It's all about the delivery.

    Classics like these never die!

  31. paleface171 August 17, 2013 at 12:06 am

Oh yeah the movie Due Date is definitely molded after this film.

  32. casey3685 November 2, 2013 at 9:39 am

A true classic that is still very popular today. This movie really showed the problems John Candy had in real life though that possibly did lead to his early death. To put it bluntly, John Candy dying was possibly one of Hollywood's biggest losses of the 90's. I read that he was on his way to ending up in a wheelchair because he got so big at the time of his death.

  33. dnasty312 November 12, 2013 at 4:56 am

Lol, this was a hilarious scene! Lmao. (Love the Movie)

  38. grahamlive April 1, 2014 at 12:35 am

A lot of people like to quote the "those aren't pillows" line from this movie, but my favourite is Steve Martin's "KINDNESS!?" quote. The way he delivers that line is just hilarious. As is this entire movie.

  39. John P July 16, 2014 at 6:23 pm

"You finally did it to yourself"…followed by laughter with just a hint of madness

  40. howlin' howie August 6, 2014 at 6:45 pm

I prefer the company of men, if ya know what I mean!

  41. Stephen Troup November 14, 2014 at 2:07 pm

No matter how mad Steve Martin was, he shouldn't have hit him like that.  That's how Houdini died, you know.

  42. sgauden02 November 26, 2014 at 5:28 pm

Did Del really steal the card or what?

  43. Alessandra Nackoul December 4, 2014 at 6:42 pm

This is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I just can't stop laughing because of it.

    Thanks for posting!

  60. Ross Hendrick July 10, 2017 at 3:43 pm

I wonder if Steve Martin meant to fall over Del's trunk at the end or if it was an accident. Perhaps the film's editor left it in as it added realism to the scene.

  61. Michael Derico September 9, 2017 at 3:08 am

I have to fit this clip into my Ethics course tomorrow. I have to talk about how kindness fits into this. Any suggestions as to what I should say?

2:02 It’s funny when Steve Martin trips

  69. kirk1968 February 21, 2018 at 1:08 am

Yeah, no matter what sympathy people have for John Candy's character, the guy is truly a menace to everyone around him and he'll take advantage of any opportunity to help himself…even at the expense of a guy with a wife with kids.

  70. michaelstarwars66 March 4, 2018 at 4:03 pm

omg thirty years have passed so quick great film

  71. PRSouthern March 8, 2018 at 4:37 pm

This leaves out the best part of the scene! It’s Steve Martin’s moment of finally “letting go” and having a laugh that makes this scene amazing. To me, it’s the climax of the movie. Both in where this scene falls in the movie as well as Neil finally changing as a person. The car burning to me represents so much is out of our control, and sometimes we just have to laugh at ourselves and how life can get the best of us.

  72. kaleidoscopio5 April 1, 2018 at 6:30 am

You notice how Neil trips over Del’s luggage trunk when something bad happens to him? First in the beginning when Del stole his cab then after Del set the car on fire?

  89. Samar Iqbal November 25, 2018 at 4:39 pm

John sure knows how to (burn rubber)!😊

  90. dkamphaus43 December 30, 2018 at 8:09 am

If I'm not mistaken, their cards accidentally got switched earlier in the movie when they rented that hotel room in Wichita right?

  94. bill bixby May 3, 2019 at 11:52 am

I know the credit card mix up wasn't his fault but he did deserve that punch for not realing he was clearly on the wrong side of the street and nearly got them killed.

Both the face shoving and extremely dramatic punch are gold.

  97. Froy 2001 August 29, 2019 at 6:18 am

The look on Steve Martin's face when he said KINDNESS.

  98. JimmySteller September 22, 2019 at 1:41 pm

I can’t tell if yes realistic or unrealistic that people drive by a car on fire and two guys laughing about it, then fighting with each other.

  99. Chris Finch September 24, 2019 at 5:16 am

Del: I thought you put it there!
Neal: Why would I put it there?!
