there are times I feel like I'm in Del's shoes cause I have great love and compassion for my fellow man and people seem to take it the wrong way and I can totally relate to this scene and how Del was feeling.

  17. Heaven Dreamer April 12, 2013 at 4:49 pm

    Are you fucking serious? Just because family guy did a parody of this fucking scene, you think that's why people are here watching it?? Get a grip you stupid little new aged dribbly mouthed not so long out of your nappy, cheeky fuck! Go back to watching cartoons and leave the real films to them men, cockroach ;

  18. Ryan C April 12, 2013 at 6:30 pm

You do know that Family Guy is a significantly bigger franchise than Trains, Planes and fucking Automobiles right? OF COURSE people are going to navigate to this scene because of the Family Guy episode. Thank fuck you're not in a position where other people might depend on your sense of reason or ability to apply common sense.

  19. Heaven Dreamer April 12, 2013 at 10:36 pm

So let me get this straight, your telling me, that the majority of people here are only watching this classic clip because family guy did a parody of it? A parody of a late 80s classic that's already conquered the BIG screens 1,000 000 times over long before you were even an itch in your dads sack? This movie dosn't need family guy for people to be you tubing clips of it lol. Maybe you did but I don't think the rest of the world needs educating like you obviously do! haha. (y)

  20. J.R Brooks May 2, 2013 at 1:57 am

Bless both John Candy and Steve Martin, was a perfect combo for comedy to have these two in a film together, classic.

Modigliani (Lost in Your Eyes) instrumental.
There's also a regular vocal version, but the scene you're asking about is using the instrumental version.

  25. Mark Krochuk June 8, 2013 at 5:52 pm

The acting in this scene is terrific.

  26. Alex Cousins June 18, 2013 at 10:53 pm

  30. Alyssa Adler September 11, 2013 at 8:41 pm

@Alexxx1013 try typing in on google "planes trains and automobiles soundtrack" and you can find all the songs they played throughout the movie. the key word is soundtrack, you can type in any movie with the word soundtrack and you can find all the songs, it's that simple.

  31. peloquin October 16, 2013 at 4:00 pm

For anyone who has never seen this movie before, go watch it! and I promise you that you'll get teary eyed about the rest of this scene.

  36. Cultist Crusher April 2, 2014 at 5:01 am

You cut off the best scene in the history of movies.

  37. JAS May 12, 2014 at 4:47 pm

This scene made the movie in my opinion.. not Β because of Del's response, but more because of his reaction to the verbal beatdown, he is absolutely hurt ,being torn down piece by piece,.. by the end almost to tears, this is the reason I find myself thinking of this movie from time to time.. the relationship between the two ,and the friendship they develop by the movies end… Neal ending up knowing he has so much to be thankful for, and learning it from Del. Love the movie and RIP John Candy, you absolutely nailed this scene, and this movie .. πŸ™‚ Β

omg this scene used to make me so upset! I felt so bad for John Candy's character! (forgotten his name :P)

  41. Doobie1975 November 26, 2014 at 12:36 am

there are times I feel a lot of people feel the same about me as Neal does towards Del because I'm so friendly, chatty and caring, definitely one of the most touching scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

John Candy. So underrated as an actor.

  51. Russell Thorburn September 13, 2016 at 4:48 am

John Candy wasn't just a very funny man. He was a wonderful actor. The look on his face as Steve Martin's character is ripping into him breaks my heart every time I watch this scene.

  61. ThisGuy Here July 14, 2018 at 8:02 pm

Steve Martin's got a point in that scene from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! Anybody that tells stories have to have a point! Because it makes the story so much interesting for the listener!

  62. alienboya July 28, 2018 at 8:12 am

This scene must of been hard for Steve Martin to do, because no one in the right mind would want to hurt John Candy's feelings.

  63. Squicx August 10, 2018 at 1:02 pm

dude. he is. i thought i was there with him

  65. Mike Brannon November 28, 2018 at 3:58 pm

Such a good scene showing what’s under the surface for each character.

Yes, Del is annoying and all of these criticisms are valid. But Neal reveals he’s not just a selfish jerk, he gets excessively mean when it’s not quite called for.

Del shows that beneath his good cheer front, he is easily hurt. He also doesn’t retaliate because instead of feeling enraged by the attack, he feels ashamed.

    Excellent movie, great characters.

  66. Kevin Cody December 3, 2018 at 8:30 pm

  67. Steve Greenfield December 29, 2018 at 1:24 am

  71. Noe Berengena September 18, 2019 at 2:05 pm

The more I see Steve Martin in his movies the more I realize what a mediocre actor he was. Try reading one of his humorous books. You'll be disappointed.

How on Earth you could stop this clip before John Candy's monologue — possibly the best acting moment in his entire career — is beyond me.
