This Car Mod is Stupid

rev your engines mg says scotty in a
modern vehicle if someone were to put a cold air intake and free-flowing exhaust
with the fuel management system dump more fuel in the gaining any increases
in fuel economy you can’t just take off the factory equipment throw stuff like a
cold air intake different exhausts without reprogramming the car on any
modern car if you want it to really run correctly there but all kinds of studies
done where they tested them before and after putting the cold air intakes and
exhaust and find out that over time they wouldn’t run right unless they reprogram
your computer is measuring stuff with the oxygen sensors and the back pressure
and all kinds of stuff and if you just change it on the computer doesn’t know
it’s not gonna guess right and a car won’t run right so don’t do that it’s a
stupid thing to do anyway race guys do it yeah man they got guys that program
one before the race every race to take in consideration the temperature the
humidity the barometric pressure the altitude all kinds of stuff you can’t
just bolt I don’t think it’ll run better right obonda hey Scotty what do you
think of the honda civic type-r those are excellent screaming little cars now
they’re not giving them away they’re close to 40 grand now they are a
race design civic with a fast engine they only come in a standard
transmission I get a customer just bought one I love driving around he
brought it over here to let me drive it around see what it’s like I was
impressed now Scotty’s a cheapskate I’d never buy a new one it costs too much
money I have to wait until they got really old and my Toyotas jelly don’t
break so you know I got three cars in one person I have no reason to buy
anymore so I probably never will they’re excellent little cars they handle they
got tons of acceleration a lot of horsepower but there are expenses
they’re not giving those things away from what I’ve seen they’re generally
even a scan over sticker price at the dealer because they’re selling them so
fast cuz people want that type of car small little zippy racecar that’s what
they’re gonna buy Cheyenne Martha Scottie I’m problem put my gear in
reverse sometimes they’re a terrible noise and when I put it in reverse it
takes several tries for it moves cars the Suzuki Swift low mileage maybe low
mileage but it’s a Suzuki Swift Suzuki’s do not make good cars which is kind of
because they make fantastic motorcycles I add a Suzuki 750 she said thing 159
miles an hour started every time had a great sound never leaked oil this is the
crate motor stuff I gave it to my son their cars exact opposite kind of junky
clunky little things they don’t sell Suzuki’s in the United States anymore
the cars cuz they sold so bad they pulled out of the United States entirely
new transmissions going out you hear noise and it doesn’t move it’s just flat
going out the money it costs to fix one of those things my advice is if you can
find a used transmission there small vehicles maybe see what a guy charged to
put one in and gamble with the used transmission but I wouldn’t put too much
money into that thing they’re not worth anything if you’re in the United States
now other parts of the world a lots of guys fix them in the parts availability
is higher so you might just have it fixed then if you live in Europe or
Australia or something but in the United States it’s not worth fixing really see
says Scotty I got a 2002 rsx when I let go of the gas the car seems to lurch forward what do you think is the issue 99% of the
time when you’re driving a car and you let go of the accelerator and it lurches
you got an automatic transmission problem that it’s just catching and
that’s what happens they kind of lurch it’s sad but true now let’s say you got
a standard transmission well in that case if it lurks when you took off in a
gas it could be a problem in your fuel management system worse when you take
your foot off the gas it’s confused and it’s supposed to let the fuel injectors
gradually lose fuel and I might be cutting them off too fast and then
turning them back on I can lurch most of the time they do it on those it’s an
automatic transmission if the transmission starting to collage now the
other hand I think customers the cars like that and they drove them for 2-3
years more and they still went down the road and they just live with little bit
alerts when it again doesn’t necessarily mean you got to rebuild the transmission
right away Oh doc says a Walmart brand oil and synthetic long miles filters any
good sure yeah Walmart doesn’t make anything they just buy stuff from other
people there’s nothing wrong with buying their synthetic oil all the oil is sold
in the United States has to meet certain standards in anyways when you buy a
higher-end long mileage filter fram makes them for them and the same one is the high-end Fram and the high-end Frams
are excellent filters now the low end frames are crap because they’re just
cheaply made low price it’s no arguing that but fram have been making oil filters for a long time they also make high-end
filters and they make them for a lot of different companies do and they’re all
the same because fram is making them and if you are gonna buy one of those friends
do buy the extended one because it’s a much better filter than their cheap ones
that are just the normal ones they’re a lot better built, I got a whole video on that
you can watch radioactive bananas’s I don’t want a new car as I can’t fix them
maybe in a program child, give me a 65 Pontiac Bonneville is my first car
I love the tanks yeah well you could something old like that sure they’re
easier to work on I was working on customers car he had bought a 65 Mustang GT and yeah it’s a fancy little car wasn’t really nice shined up one but
it’s simple defects it’s got a carburetor bolts on kind of five-speed
transmission they put an aftermarket on that but still it’s a standard
transmission simple to drive less things to figure out to go wrong cuz you’re
doing a shift not computers so you know if it’s not chipping right you know
you’re not doing it right or you need a new clutch it’s pretty much what goes
wrong with them real simple mechanical stuff you can
easily fix yourself there’s not a bad idea buying something like that the only
real downfall something like a 60 I it’s gonna get horrible gas mileage those old
cars are big heavy tanks and they suck the gas down there’s no arguing that and
you’re gonna get in the teens in town there’s no or even lower you might get
six miles a gallon with you driving hard in town, rss production says Scotty
I got an 05 Acura MDX 206,000 miles would you recommend using royal purple
oil and that old of the vehicle well yeah it’s actually wrong I know a lot of
people that use it for their race cars now the Acura is a pretty high-tech
engine the v6 engine and those are pretty high-tech engines time to make
some they’re excellent engines and if you don’t mind spending that kind of
money for the oil it’s kind of overkill cuz I’m sorry you’re not gonna be
raising it you’re not taking it to the high extremes but especially if you live
in a place like Alaska work it’s real cold or North Dakota sure it’s a better
oil because it flows better when it’s cold outside in that case you better off
getting a really good oil like that because it will flow better than a
regular oil cuz it’s made for colder and higher temperatures it’s got a longer
temperature range than the other oil pantera says Scotty my cruise control
stopped working in my 90s accord what can I do to fix it okay well it’s an old
car at least the old ones were mechanical and vacuum activator
there’s vacuum lines that go to it sometimes they fall off rot and they
suck air and then it’s not gonna work and the actuator that’s by your throttle
that also is a vacuum solenoid that could have a care in the diaphragm and
that’d need replacing of course check the fuses make sure the switch works
when you turn it on and off now if it’s not that then it’s the module and
they’re so expensive and I think so old if you really want a cruise control my
advice go get a guy installing aftermarket ones they’re not all that
expensive and you can just start from scratch because that kind of stuff
modules for those aren’t old Honda you’ll be able to get it at Honda dealer
if they still sold them and it would cost a small fortune for usually $100 you can get a kit to put a brand new one on the whole system and just do
that rather than try to fix that old thing matthew miller says Scotty what are
your thoughts about a car made entirely of plastic well you know strangely
enough oh she’s just like thirty years ago I was reading Popular Mechanics
magazine rather ironic now that I’m like the most popular mechanic and I read it and ford was working on this pinto engine and they were making the whole thing out
of plastic the Pistons everything and of course the thing melted after a while
and all the plastic parts broke making a car totally out of plastic not a smart
idea now I mean if we’re all gonna be riding around in tiny little cars I
guess you could make the bodies and everything out of plastic they wouldn’t
weigh much they’d get better fuel economy or electric cars make the bodies
out of plastic and if everybody’s driving a small plastic car it’s
perfectly fine but on the other hand if you got guys driving big semi trucks and
about 350 trucks down the road and you’re in this tiny little plastic car
if they run into you can kiss your hiney goodbye so, David says hey Scotty
I got an 06 Ford Ranger the AC works on Max AC but not on normal what’s the
problem if you have to turn it on max ain’t
seeing it blows cold and you put on regular AC and it doesn’t blow at all
probably you need a new control unit that switches sound like what controls
it is turn it when it’s on regular AC and also a power when it’s unmatched if
it only has power once on max that generally means that switch assembly is
broken if by any chance you mean that it only blows on high-speed but not on any
of the lower speeds that’s the ball or motor resistor or something in that case
you’d buy a new blower motor resistor some because when they go bad you’ll
lose different speeds but you’ll always have full speed because it bypasses the
resistor for full speed so you might want to check that too, Jarrett’s Kayla
says this guy’s got he doesn’t have any clue he’s ours you’re painting himself
well the reason I’m repeating myself because people ask similar questions so
I have to give them the correct answer the correct answer will be a repeat of one
of my previous ones cuz I’m telling the truth now if I was a liar I’d be giving different answers it’s the same question
all the time but I’m repeating myself because I’m giving you the correct
answer over and over and over again so people will understand what the truth is
and not make up lies every time something’s good yeah it’s telling the
truth could be boring after a while if you keep telling the truth even that’s
why people lie all the time in our society they’re bored so they just
decided to lie to make things a little spicier and make this a little more
action to me I’m old-fashioned I just tell the truth all the time,
so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember to
ring that Bell

  11. Ivan Machmueller November 18, 2019 at 8:24 pm

Scotty you recommend royal purple oil for extreme cold conditions BUT I watched a series where they tested different oils after being in a freezer all night , then did a pour test , and royal purple performed poorly !!

  12. Chris Resurreccion November 18, 2019 at 8:36 pm

for the lurching accelerator pedal thing it could also be the transmission mount or motor mounts

  13. Cooper 1019 November 18, 2019 at 8:39 pm

I 100% agree with you scotty the air intake systems make the car sound faster but actually make the car lose horsepower they are a stupid mod.
The K+N replacement filter are much more beneficial in the factory air box .

Scotty, when I start my vehicle it’s a 2011 bmw 328xi. When I put it in reverse it seems like I am hitting the gas slightly when I’m not. It’ll rev about 300 rpms jolty and then will be completely fine. 95k miles.

  24. Vullsain November 18, 2019 at 10:18 pm

I'm not sure !! about the cool air induction, you can tell the difference on a cool morning compared to hot day in performance. I am not convinced at all that the the ECU is incapable of functioning because of a change in temperature, the ambient air temp in the engine bay fluctuates considerably depending on location, season and how long the car has been driven.

  25. The Beaten Paths November 18, 2019 at 10:21 pm

Especially a K&N…..waste of money for a daily driver.

  26. John Thrush November 18, 2019 at 10:25 pm

For the Honda Accord cruise control issue – check the brake and/or clutch pedal to see if the stop pad is missing for the switch on it. It'll look like a post is going through a hole on the pedal assembly if the pad is missing. The pad covers the hole and depresses the switch when the pedal is not pressed down. Dorman makes stop pad replacements, but you can fix it with plastic machine screws from a hardware store for less.

If reverse gear is hard to get,put it into 2nd gear and then reverse. Much easier on tranny and cluch.

Btw Suzuki cars weren't that bad. People just rode them like Hondas and they are not meant for hard riding. They are all city cars.

Weird. I have an 07 Trailblazer. Moved to a k&n air filter . It ran a little hinky for about 2 weeks till I think the computer and motor seem to acclimate to the boost in air flow and ever since has run alot better 👍😎🤔👌😁

  34. Bodfishblues November 18, 2019 at 11:10 pm

Good gas on Suz Swift. Rebuild videos on you tube. Not as hard as you might think as the trans is pretty small. I believe it's the same as a Geo Metro. Mine was just rebuilt for under a thousand, but I'm in a rural area. Definitely worth it.

My 2000 Ford escort zx2 sr has cold air intake from the factory. It has borlaug mufflers and the pcm IS different to accommodate the cold air. Stock zx2 has 130 hp and the sr version is rated at 143. 2.0 I4 vvt naturally aspirated.

Scotty – you NOT stupid. You are a topnotch teacher. Love your channel… The only thing I disagree with you on is GM. I've had nothing but great luck with my Chevys and Buicks. And I've owned most of them for 10+ years. Cheers and keep up the great work

  43. gwwayner November 19, 2019 at 12:36 am

I installed a K&N cyclone cold air intake on my 2014 Ford Focus (manual transmission) when new and it was a very sweet modification. Peak hp increased by 10hp and the intake sound is very sporty as you go through the gears. The Mass Air Flow sensor simply inputs the increased air flow to the computer which makes the necessary adjustments without needing to fiddle with the programming. It is five years old now and the engine runs perfectly without a hiccup from idle to rev limiter. No check engine light. When the filter gets dirty I simply clean and oil it again.

  48. bduran312 November 19, 2019 at 12:54 am

Soo if an Injen/K&N cold air intake system tested to increase fuel and HP and nearly cost the same at OEM…still need to program

  49. Peter Karel Kraus November 19, 2019 at 1:06 am

Cold Air intakes only work on cars that don't have computerized electronic fuel management systems. Say , pre 2008? I'm not sure but an 80's or 90s car would breathe better, and you just get the timing adjusted.

  50. Cory Allen November 19, 2019 at 1:30 am

My shop vac has a cold air intake.

  51. Katherine Bjelke November 19, 2019 at 1:41 am

Had a 99 Suzuki Esteem it was a solid car, sold it for $1000.00 in 2015 to a friend, he drove it until his neighbor willed him a $50,000.00 truck at his passing. I still see it all over town.

  52. Bible Digger November 19, 2019 at 1:48 am

I ordered the k&n drop in high flow filter and I’m going to get an x pipe to replace the h pipe and replace the giant camaro mufflers with magna flow atak and I will gain some hp

  53. matt jo November 19, 2019 at 2:09 am

Umm, I installed a cai on my 16 audi a6 3.0t and noticed an increase in fuel economy as well as throttle response and the engine sounds better too under acceleration so I guess what he says doesn't pertain to every modern vehicle.

  54. James Clark November 19, 2019 at 2:20 am

You should always unplug the battery for 30 minutes if changing to a KN type air filter/CAI or adding a Magnaflow free flow muffler. It allows the computer to reset and it will reestablish its running parameters after it restarts with the new equipment on it. I did that when I added these things and my car has run perfectly for almost 20 years. BTW, adding a free flow muffler is fine, but leave the stock diameter piping on it and you won't lose back pressure or top end speed. Also, you won't sound like a farting sewing machine when driving down the road.

  55. VideoArchiveGuy November 19, 2019 at 2:30 am

Note that is not true for manufacturer-blessed CAIs like the Toyota TRD CAIs.

  56. Steve Vachaviolos November 19, 2019 at 2:34 am

Scotty the fix for the a/c is the resistor BRUUHHHH
then the control module ?????? Wtf

    Oh you got it srrrrryyyy

  58. Chad Keogh November 19, 2019 at 2:54 am

Scotty, I disagree about Fram oil filters. They are JUNK. You'd be better off jamming an old sock in a Pepsi can… I use WIX. Google some cut-away or exploded view comparisons. You'll agree.

  59. ChaoticGood November 19, 2019 at 2:57 am

Scotty already did a CAI video a few months ago. The same stuff. Again.
The last video must’ve made some money. Oh, YouTube, we hardly knew ye…

  60. Mark Beeunas November 19, 2019 at 3:09 am

Scotty: what about the intake resonators; what do they do? My Wife has a 2010 Infiniti ex35 V-6 and one of the resonators broke-off so I removed the other and taped up the holes. All I have noticed is it is much quieter under heavy acceleration. Cheers, Mark

  64. Itsjusta VTEC November 19, 2019 at 4:23 am

Sometimes Scotty does not know what he’s talking about you don’t need to return your car for a cold air intake or a custom exhaust. Most modern car computers are ECUs will make the adjustments that it needs.

  65. Shaun W November 19, 2019 at 4:46 am

I owned an '02 Nissan Almera Sport (1.8 litre). Had a local business build a stainless cat back exhaust system for it & fitted a K&N 57i induction kit . No other adjustments, ran like a dream, more responsive & was reliable for the seven years I owned it.

  66. Jamie Lange November 19, 2019 at 5:15 am

Mild mods the sensors will still compensate, but not straight away

  67. AC_ASAP November 19, 2019 at 5:15 am

    Does fram make mobil-1 filters?

  68. Aidan Orisit November 19, 2019 at 5:40 am

Im from Australia, and the idea that Suziki makes bad cars confuses me. It must just be due to them not being common in America. Here they are akin to Corollas and other small cars, in reliability and build quality (Id probably give them a 10% lower score for build quality). No frills and small. Not to mention their huge history of small four-wheel drives. Almost all of their small cars use some variant of the same engine series (updated in about 2005) so theyre common and simple to work on. To this day you can buy one of their small four-wheel drives and various workshops will swap a larger displacement (same series) engine in for a fair price.

  69. Tore Lund November 19, 2019 at 5:49 am

cold air intake does not increase fuel economy, a hot air intake does. When the inlet air is hotter, the mass of air is smaller so power is less. That results is a more open throttle for the same power, so less pumping loss = better fuel economy.

  70. Rob S November 19, 2019 at 5:53 am

The thing about cold air intakes is since the late 70s, cars already had some kind of ductwork delivering cold air to the filter housing/air cleaner.

  71. Danny Garcia November 19, 2019 at 6:41 am

anyone who isnt already past their first car knows this lol

  72. Jedi One November 19, 2019 at 7:09 am

I wouldn't allow a Fram oil filter in my shopping cart high end or not. I use to do a lot of mudding. and one day a stick poked a hole in my oil filter. a mudding buddy had a extra fram oil filter so I stuck it on. and every time I started my truck it would knock. on start up. even if I let it set for 15 minutes or less. and I had lost at least 15 pounds oil pressure. I thought I had messed up my engine. but it was close to oil change so I went ahead and changed my oil. knowing I had a messed up engine. so I put a new wix on it and bam it never knocked and my oil pressure came back up. 290.000 miles and they truck still running great.

I know why guy asking about his Suzuki Swift is having a hard time getting into reverse: its a common problem with those cars and it's from worn out synchros. If you don't want to repair or replace the gearbox, then simply and deliberately without excessive force, select reverse gear, several times if needed. The random crunch every now and then won't go away, sadly, without getting it fixed…

I always thought these "cold air intakes" where stupid. THEY ARE NOT "COLD AIR" you have moved the intake into the engine compartment. its hot in the engine compartment. You just put a warm air intake on your car.

  80. Headwhacker November 19, 2019 at 10:28 am

Wondering if this works if you really stop and think about it if the cold air intake was really a benefit to the motor then how come cars run like s*** during the winter time when it's actually cold out?

  81. maybeDOS November 19, 2019 at 11:24 am

My 01 ranger had stock CAI and when I was young thought it would be cool to put a cone filter on so essentially i took my cold air intake and made it hot air intake by sucking in the heat from the engine. I put it back some years later after i got older and wiser..

What a world we live in that telling the truth all time is considered old fashion… lol. We know what you mean Scotty. Thanks for all the accurate advice.

  88. Jonas Martinez November 19, 2019 at 6:16 pm

those "cold air intake" is actually not cold air intake….. most of the time they are SHORT RAM intakes unless it has a box that insulates it from the hot engine bay temperatures…. so in other words, you just removed your factory air box and replaced it with another air cleaner box….. you know, that is a mental issue….. you do the same thing expecting a different result.

  90. Frank Spencer November 19, 2019 at 7:02 pm

Run it stock and save you money for a better car. Just give it an Italian tune now and again.

Why they keep calling that junk COLD AIR intake is still a mystery to me.. It replaces the original COLD air intake that is pulling air from the fender or front of the car only to suck in hot air from under the hood, especially if it's routed somewhere near the exhaust manifold.. Just stupid xD.

  98. InDatParish November 20, 2019 at 3:12 am

FYI, the video is over 10 minutes long and he only talked about the cold air intake for the first 1:04

  99. RJ November 20, 2019 at 11:32 am

Nice "cold air"in the engine bay…haha.
